If there are "dog days" of summer, what we have going here must surely be the "bear days" of winter. I just want to curl up and wait for the crocuses to bloom.
February is a hard month for me. It has been this way as long as I can remember. As much as I love Michigan, the long stretches of grey days get to me. I'm feeling surrounded by old man winter and wondering if it's even possible that buds will spring out of the tree branches. When the sun comes out, I try to soak it in. Since we don't really get outside much, this usually means leaving my sun visor up and letting that sun hit my face (never mind the crow's feet I'm developing around my eyes). A few weeks ago, the series of weather events left us with thick ice on the cement in our breezeway. We took turns breaking the ice. Whew! I have a man who is skilled with a sledge hammer!
I did take some fun pictures of Sariah on a sunny day two weeks ago after I made a big mound of snow. She decided that she was queen of the mountain and stayed out there on top of the hill for quite some time. One of those sunny days to enjoy and save inside yourself for a day like today, all grey, brown and white.
She sings a song to the tune of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow:"
I'm the Queen of the mountain,
I'm the Queen of the mountain,
I'm the Queen of the mountian,
Sariah!

The Bear Days of Winter

I remember Feb. and March were the HARDEST for me in Michigan. If the sun popped out, even for just a minute, I would run to the window, close my eyes and just stand there trying to absorb the vitamin D or something. I later noticed that even when it was cloudy all day, sometimes the sun would break through the horizon each evening as it was setting. I would always watch for that and try to remind myself that the sun WAS still there, even when we couldn't see it! I don't miss Michigan winters at ALL!
