OYBC Conference

All four kids got all of their submissions for the Young Birder of the Year contest in on time (October 15th) and then we quickly moved on to presentations and poster for the Ohio Young Birder's Club 7th annual conference.  The conference was held in Toledo, Ohio at the Toledo Zoo.  Both Nathan and May were selected as speakers (and received an honorarium for their service) and Elijah was able to create a trifold poster about the project he did at Fenner, updating their bird feeding area.

Here's Nathan presenting: On the Merits of LOCAL Birding.  Nathan used his own photos and stories from his experience birding, mostly by foot, up to three miles from home plus at his high school.  He told some funny stories and some endearing stories.  He just plain LOVES birds.

Here's May presenting: Water, Paints and Paper: How Birds Inspired my Art.  May had examples of her art from 2009 up until the present.  She showed how her art has changed and some of the influences that have helped her improve.  What you see on the screen above are all submissions for the art module of YBY.

Here is Brigham with his finished bluebird house.  Sariah also built one, but we don't have a photo of that.  I was surprised at how much Brigham and Sariah enjoyed listening to all six of the presentations.  Both Brigham and Elijah won new binoculars through the student raffle.

Now, we have Nathan and Elijah who need to create presentations for our local Audubon meeting and Nathan who needs to study for the ACT and get ready to leave us to attend Conserve School.  It will be a busy next few months too!
