Since our vacation this year does not involve Lake Michigan, we decided that we should at least spend a day there. We couldn't have picked a better day. It was sunny, breezy, not too hot and just plain beautiful.
We decided to go to Ludington. If you look at a map of Michigan on the west coast you will see two bumps sticking out into the water. The northern one is Ludington; the southern one is the Dunes at Silver Lake, both of which we visited yesterday. We chose to visit the State Park Beach in Ludington. Wow! It was a really nice place. The kids dug in the sand and loved being towed around in the water on a tube. Brigham discovered that sand isn't all that bad, and can even be fascinating! After he decided it was OK to be in the sand, we followed him all over the place. He kept experimenting with putting his nose, forehead, and tongue on the sand. It was hilarious!
After we changed from our bathing suits, we headed for the sand dunes. We found a company that leases part of the dunes from the State that gives rides around the dunes. It was a blast! It was somewhat like being on a roller coaster.
There used to be a forest up on the dunes. Not much is left. At one point, there was a fire and it's interesting to see the "Dune Wood" as it's called. This piece has a part carved out by the sand and wind in the shape of Michigan (These pictures are small. To see them larger, just double click on them!)
Joseph kindly drove the whole day and though we tried to do a good job with sunblock, some people came home with beet red body parts. Joseph's whole back looks like Rudolph's nose!
I would definitely give the day 5 stars! Ahhhh! I love Michigan!
